A Fire Advisory is now in effect across the Municipal District of Bonnyville and several surrounding communities due to dry cured grass hazards in snow-free areas.

The advisory took effect Thursday, May 7 at noon and applies to:

• Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87
• Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach
• Summer Village of Pelican Narrows
• Village of Glendon

What Restrictions Are in Place?

Under the advisory, no new fire permits will be issued for heavy fuel burning, including windrows or machine-piled brush.

Other fire permit requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, while existing permits remain valid for now. Residents are also being reminded to inspect previous burn sites and ensure all fires are completely extinguished.

Fire officials are urging residents to use extra caution during windy conditions.

What Is Still Allowed?

The following activities are still permitted:

• Small campfires used safely for cooking and warming
• Backyard fire pits
• Charcoal briquette barbecues on private property
• Propane and natural gas appliances
• CSA-approved burning devices

Wildfire Prevention Reminder

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority is reminding residents to never leave campfires unattended and to fully extinguish fires using the “Soak it, Stir it, Soak it Again” method until cool to the touch.
