To regulate the operation of short-term rental properties within the Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach and ensure they contribute positively to the community while complying with local bylaws.
Key Provisions
Definitions
- Short-Term Rental: Rental of a residential property for less than 14 consecutive days
- Host: Individual/entity offering the rental
- Guest: Individual/entity staying at the property
- Owner: Property owner
Registration & Licensing
- All short-term rentals must be registered before accepting bookings
- Registration requires:
- Property details
- Proof of insurance
- Contact information
- Licence required after registration approval
- Licence fee: $50/year (renewed each January)
- The Village may revoke approvals or cancel rentals at any time
Minimum Stay Requirement
Minimum booking: 3 consecutive nights
Occupancy & Use
- Must follow maximum occupancy limits based on property size
- Strictly residential use only
- No parties, events, or commercial activities
Noise & Community Impact
- Quiet Hours:
- Mon–Sat: 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Sundays/Holidays: 10:00 PM – 9:00 AM
- Fireworks: Prohibited at all times
- Hosts should inform neighbors and provide contact info
Guest Awareness
- Hosts must provide guests with:
- Written copy of rules and bylaws
- Local regulations (e.g., water zones, parking, etc.)
- Guests must understand and comply with all rules
Waste Management
- Hosts must provide clear trash & recycling instructions
- Guests cannot access campsite storage areas
- Parking rules:
- Must be on designated on-site parking only
- No parking on roads, reserves, parks, or public areas
- Limited to number of approved spaces
- Violations may result in:
- Fines
- Towing (at owner’s expense)
- Permit revocation
Pets
- Must be approved by the host
- Hosts define pet limits and rules
- Pets must:
- Be controlled at all times
- Not cause disturbances
- Guests must clean up pet waste
- Violations may lead to:
- Removal of pet
- Termination of rental
- Host is responsible for any damages or injuries caused by pets
Reporting & Enforcement
- Complaints can be reported to the CAO
- Violations may result in fines or penalties
- Property owner is fully responsible for:
- Guest behavior
- Any unpaid fines
Amendments
- Policy may be updated by the Village at any time
- Changes communicated to registered hosts
